Lesson Plan For Types of PIC-LITS: Paragraph Short Narrative
OBJECTIVE:
Writing a short narrative on a compelling photograph is a fun way to capture the sensory experience of the photo and tell a quick, first person story about the imagined events in a photo.
This will allow you to think creatively about descriptive sentences to engage the viewer of the photograph and help them see the photograph in a new way.
Definition of Short Narrative Writing:
A personal narrative is a first person account of one significant moment. It will develop the setting, dialogue (if applicable), action, climax, and resolution associated with the moment. All personal narratives build to the climax-a point of irrevocable consequences-and end with an implicit or explicit resolution that establishes the significance of this climactic moment.

MODEL PIC-LIT:
Notice how the writer has written in the first person and connected to the photograph. S/he imagines this is his / her grandmother’s Bible. The setting is captured with the description of the hands and the Bible. The climactic moment is the embrace with the mother. The resolution is that the writer is unsure that it was time for his / her grandmother to go and unsure that his / her mother believes it was time.
