Lesson Plan For Types of PIC-LITS: ACRONYMS Level 1

OBJECTIVE:
Writing ACRONYMS is a great way to interact creatively with the photographs on piclits.com. An acronym is a an abbreviation formed from the first letters of other words in a series of words. It is pronounced as a word.

For example, S.C.U.B.A. is pronounced “scooba” and constitutes the series of nouns: Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. So, the acronym actually refers to the air tank and hoses, but we use it to describe the act of diving underwater with a tank and mask.

We will not use already established acronyms like. F.B.I. or N.A.S.A. OR N.A.T.O. but will create our own acronyms by selecting one word to capture the essence of the photograph and then write one word after each letter of the word.

This writing exercise develops creative and critical thinking skills.

So select an amazing photo, think creatively, and in FREESTYLE mode on piclits.com, generate an ACRONYM and write one descriptive word after each letter of the word we select to capture the essence of the photograph.

MODEL PIC-LIT:

Notice how the word HAPPY captures the essence of the dog. But also notice how the one word descriptive words after each letter of HAPPY adds to the message of the photo. The dog is also humorous, poised, and youthful to select a few from the example.
