Appositive phrases are phrases that define a noun or pronoun and being with a noun.
MODEL SENTENCE:
Roger Federer, an amazing tennis player, will win another Wimbledon Championship.
(“an amazing tennis player” is a phrase that begins with a noun and modifies “Roger Federer”).
Appositive phrases function as adjectives do and add detail to your noun or pronoun.
KEY PUNCTUATION DETAIL:
IF appositive phrases occur after a noun in a sentence, then two commas must offset the appositive phrase. See the example above.
