Lesson Plan For Parts Of Speech: Nouns Level 2

OBJECTIVE:
While most students know that a noun is the name of a person, place or thing, many students have difficulty identifying when a noun functions as a noun and when a noun functions as an adjectives (words that describe) and are called  noun-adjectives.  We will learn how to identify a noun as a noun and when a noun functions as a noun-adjective by using PIC-LITS.

MODEL SENTENCE:
A rolling stone gathers no moss.
A rolling stone (noun) gathers no moss (noun).
You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.
You can’t make a silk (noun / adjective) purse (noun) out of a sow’s (noun / adjective) ear (noun).

INCORRECT AND CORRECT:
Incorrect:  The bull’s (noun) horn (noun) gored the careless matador (noun).
Correct:   The bull’s (noun / adjective) horn (noun) gored the careless matador (noun).

  4. In FREESTYLE mode, write a sentence with three nouns and identify them by placing (noun) after the word.  If there are any noun / adjectives, identify them by placing (noun / adjective) after the word.
